During my 2/3 reviews with Dan and Sandra, I discussed how I am still thinking how to execute the translated versions of I love yous I've done to a more resolved, finished work. They did say that it is already a work as it is, but I think I could do something else to it to further push the idea I have for the work.
So this week, I spent my time editing a video for it. Each translation represent a frame which lasts for about 3 seconds, and I have colour picked each country's flag and used it for the background. The music came from a royalty free website. I wanted the beat of the music to correspond to each cut and for the ambience to evoke a romantic and dreamy feeling.
On the other hand, I also experimented with some letters in Baybayin and Alphabet that I have recently laser-cutted. This is not as resolved as I want them to be, but experimenting with spatial relationships gave me a lot to think about.
Seeing them in a pile in the images below is almost metaphorical of the different writing styles (and also languages) that I know of and how much they are stacked and overlayed with each other in my head. It also encouraged the idea of potentially combining the two writing styles and their characters together to form a completely new writing style. (Alphabet + Baybayin = Alphabayin? Baybayet? Alphabay? ... just some things to think about in the future)
I also laid them on the floor like this, though I didn't really like the way they turn up. It just does not look very visually appealing/interesting compared to how they were arranged in the images above.
Maybe I needed more characters to fill up the room? Maybe utilising the characters shapes to form patterns could also work? Or even trying to stick them on the wall?... these are the things that I want to keep exploring in my practice.
