"Romeo & Juliet," (2019)
Form/Process: This work features logos of different dating apps. I have adjusted and colour corrected each one on Photoshop to imitate how they look on phone screens. I then printed, framed (A4), and installed them in the studio.
Content: This is a starting point for me in regards to this new perspective of love that I am exploring. This opens up the conversation and how different logos convey different meaning depending on their targeted demographics.
Moreover, this further delves in to the modern idea of love and how people rely on dating apps to connect with other people rather than actually going out in person to meet people. Furthermore, this also aims to explore how distorted our idea of self image is (referencing back to my work Love, X and self love).
Some observations I've had with my peers include the use of colour and font for symbolic meaning in the logos. It also opened up the conversation regarding how much we've evolved as a society when it comes to dating. We are more direct in communicating our needs and desires. In addition to this, these apps also seem to be a 'hook up' app where you find one night stands, rather than what they are originally marketed for which is to find that special connection with someone.
