In Class Work
Reflection: For today's class, we had to produce an installation that explores interval and repetition in a selected area in Chauvel Place.
We were originally working in pairs, but we've decided to collaborate with another group to maximise our resources as well as get ideas from each other. In the end, I was working with Lily, Nic, and Bella. Our materials were bamboo, dowels, paper, and clay.
We first stuck the dowels of different length and placed them on to the ground in a form of an X to make the foundation of our structure. We then use the clay to strengthen each joint so the structure won't move as much as it was very windy that day. After that, we have decided to use the bamboo and slide them in each gap, creating some sort of body/skeleton for our installation. We couldn't really think of how to use the paper in this structure. At first we tried cutting them into strips, twisting them like a twine and braiding it so we could use it as a rope of some sort but it just wouldn't hold and keeps unravelling. So then we thought about putting it inside the structure and letting it bounce around while the wind blows, but it wasn't very aesthetically pleasing. At the end we made little flags out of it and put it on top of our structure.
This was a very fun and interesting activity because I get to collab with other people and have, not only more materials to work with but also creative ideas on what we could possibly do.

Homework
Reflection: For the homework, we had to make an installation in SketchUp that explores the same theme as above and place it in an area around the Creative Industries precinct. The image above was my final installation.
