In Class Work
Reflection: Today in class, we had to explore the concepts of plane and balance using allocated materials from which I've picked mdf and acrylic sheets. I knew I wanted to cut them into strips of the same size, as well as do some sort of stacking with them.
After cutting my chosen materials, I've proceeded to stack them into different shapes and forms which could be seen from the images below.
I wasn't really sure how I felt about these as they looked very decorative and homely to me so I kept experimenting with the materials, looking at a different way I could use them.
So then I thought about heating the acrylic sheets and bending them all. After that, I then tried to stack them together where it bends. For me, this makes an interesting effect, making it appear like a disjointed set of stairs or some sort of vertebrae.
I still had the mdf strips I cut before so I thought about placing it next to the stacked acrylic strips but this time, using only one side of the strip as a foundation. The final form looked a lot like a fan/stairs.
Linking it back to plane and balance, I thought that the final form serves just that. The balancing act of stacking the materials in front of each other, as well as the literal balance between materiality is present in the form. Overall I thought that I successfully utilised these concepts within a more simplistic form.

Homework
Reflection: For the homework, our task was to produce a visualisation of an installation entirely composed of planar elements from the CI Precinct and place it in a landscape of a photo we have taken somewhere else. My initial idea was to take a photo within the studios and use the reflection of the windows as my main medium.
In my image, I have taken the planar form of the reflection of the windows and positioned it in the image of a bridge I have also taken. I decided to use repetition and similar to the in class activity, I also used stacking of the same material to create an interesting form which can be seen in the image above.
