I have spent my days leading up to this week making my new mask. Based on my idea and the inspirations I have talked about last week, I was very interested in making a mask similar to what Maison Margiela made his models wear for his fashion shows.
I didn't get some early progress shots of the mask, but basically I cut up a pair of fishnets (knee length) and put it over a foam head with a plastic lining underneath. I then started hot gluing the gems I found at Spotlight, covering the surface area of the head.
After finishing the mask, I had trouble getting it off the foam head as the gems and the plastic lining made the fishnets less stretchy so I had to cut an opening at the back of the mask, as well as around the eye area as it was very difficult to see once I've put it on.
I have plans on extending this into performance art, with other variations and media, but for now I have decided to keep it as a photographic series.
Shown below is my new work - PRINCE (2019).
